There are so many ways we are wasting water in our homes, many of them are so subtle, and we might not even notice it. It’s great to try and save money, and even better to help save our environment. If we look at how we are wasting water, maybe we could curb it. Here are some of the ways we are wasting water the most.
Flushing Needlessly
We’ve all done it, flushed a needless napkin or tissue. Not only is it wasting water, but some things just shouldn’t get flushed. This can cause problems for your plumbing as well as your septic system. Throw it in the trash instead.
Running Water
Another thing we all do. Run the water while we brush our teeth and wash our hands. It’s really easy to just turn the faucet off during these activities.
Dishwasher
We can save so much water if we only run the dishwasher when it’s full. It’s actually more cost effective, and the dishes will still get clean. It will save money in the long run. Not only are you running water, but you’re using heated water as well!
Washing Machine
The same rings true here. Only wash full loads. Especially now. You might have a home full of guests. This is going to make for many extra loads of laundry. So try to only do full loads of laundry.
Leaks
The most important way to waste water is through leaks in your plumbing. Whether it be through leaking pipes, or leaking faucets, or leaking connections. All of these things can cause water waste, and more importantly, they can all cause damage to your home. Be on the lookout for drips, water stains, or pooling water. If you see any of these signs, it’s important to contact a professional plumbing contractor as soon as possible.
