Signs it’s the Right Time to Replace Your AC Unit

As a homeowner, making the tough decisions about replacing expensive appliances can be hard. But they are important ones. You have to weigh your options. A new air conditioner can be a big investment, but so can costly repairs. Here are some of the signs to look out for which tell you it’s the right time to replace your AC unit.

The air conditioner uses freon

As we mentioned in a previous blog, if your AC uses freon, the unit was made before 2010 and this type of freon is no longer made or used. Should you need the freon replaced, it will be very costly.

Unit is running all the time

This could happen for a number of reasons. These reasons might include the unit is inefficient or too small for the size of the house. It could be starting to corrode or the unit is just getting old.

AC unit is more than 10 years old

If it is more than ten years old, it is probably the right time to replace your AC unit. As mentioned above, it probably uses freon, and would be costly to replace it. And it most likely isn’t operating as efficiently as newer models do either.

Repair costs

If you notice that the AC repair man is visiting your home more and more often to do repairs on your air conditioner, it might make sense to replace your ac unit rather than keep repairing it. You’re probably spending more money repairing it than you would if it were to be replaced.

Comfort

If you’re not getting quality air comfort with your current unit, it could be worth looking into AC replacement. Newer models operate at lower cost, and run more efficiently. They have better settings and take more moisture out of the air than older models do. If could be the ducts, filters or other problems too, so it’s important to call an AC professional to give you the full picture.

Air Quality

If you’re noticing more dust than normal, or increased signs of mold or mildew, the air quality in your home could be affected by a poorly running AC System. The last thing you want is the Bradenton area humidity coming inside your home.
